SummerFun LA invites you to sample all the elements that make Los Angeles the top destination for millions of visitors each year. You will savor sunsets over the perfect waves of Malibu Beach, explore the exclusive fashion boutiques of Rodeo Drive and the one-of-a-kind landmarks of Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

English classes and activities take place on the campus of the renowned Rolling Hills Preparatory School. Rolling Hills is located near the ocean in Rolling Hills Estates in Southwestern Los Angeles. The campus features a safe environment, modern classrooms, and recreational facilities.

SummerFun LA Details:

SummerFun LA includes six levels from beginner to advanced.  On the first day, you will take a brief assessment test to ensure that you are placed at the correct level so you will get the most out of your classes. You will also receive a welcome pack including a free student bag and information about our classes and scheduled activities.

Every two weeks, you will have a chance to measure your progress so you can tell how much you are learning. At the end of the course you will receive a frameable certificate as a record of your English language studies.

Our professional teachers are all university graduates with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificates and are experienced in addressing the needs of young learners. We use a task-based approach that quickly prepares you to interact with others in English. Lessons may include project work, videos, games, and access to our wide variety of modern English teaching resources.

Our friendly, talented teachers, cutting-edge methodology and interactive and stimulating learning environment will maximize your language learning experience. Lessons are fast-paced, intensive, and contemporary and are designed to help you improve your communication skills and build confidence using English.

English lessons will also include preparation for excursions and social activities, to help your children continue their English learning outside of the classroom.

We offer three program housing options:

Full-Board Resort-Style Residential

Homestay

Day Camp

Full-Board Resort-Style Residential Program:

All Full Board Residential students stay in twin bedrooms at the Villas, Loyola Marymount University’s resort-style student housing complex. This resort housing is located a short walk from the Rolling Hills campus. The Villas offers two and three bedroom townhouses surrounding a courtyard with outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, a swimming pool, and a covered bbq pavilion. The complex includes free wi-fi, a fitness center, and laundry facilities. It is gated and includes 24/7 on-site security.

Our welfare and support staff are on site at all times should you need help at any time. A 24-hour emergency contact phone number for students and parents is also available. International Student Medical Insurance is included in the program fee.

Homestay Program:

We have a limited number of homestay openings. In this program, you share a twin bed (2 beds) room with another student in the home of a carefully-selected American family. Homestyle breakfasts and dinners are included as is a bag lunch.

Day Camp Program:

If you wish to arrange your own housing, we can offer a Day Camp Program. With this program, you participate in all class and afterschool activities but arrange your own housing and meals.

All Programs Include the Following Activities:

Our Summer Camp offers students many exciting activities and excursions along with a full afternoon and evening activity program. The Los Angeles program even includes optional Saturday morning surfing lessons!

Los Angeles has many tourist attractions like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive, and Venice Beach. Each week there is one mid-week full-day excursion to either the 6 Flags or LegoLand theme parks and half-day afternoon activities. On weekends there are optional add on excursion opportunities including Disneyland, Universal Studios and surfing lessons.

Mid-Week excursions:

Full day at either 6 Flags or LegoLand Theme Parks

Afternoon excursions include:

• Beach picnics and sports
• UCLA tours
• Movie Nights
• Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball
• Picnics at Will Rogers State Park
• And much more!

Our full afternoon and evening activity schedule offers students a choice of intramural sports as well as other activities including movie nights, karaoke, student discos, bowling, beach cycling and more.

STUDENT SERVICES

We offer lots of individual care and attention to each student. Our welfare and support staff are on site at all times – 24 hours a day. We have a 24-hour emergency contact phone number for students and parents.

The following levels of care are provided.

Residential Program: At The Villas

There will always be a staff member at the Villas whenever students are present, day or night. In addition, there are security officers at the facility at all times. We have a 24-hour emergency contact phone number for both students and their parents. 

Homestay

Our homestay families are carefully screened to ensure that you have a safe and welcoming home away from home during your visit. We have a 24-hour emergency contact phone number for both students and their parents.

Day Camp

Since Day Camp students make their own housing arrangements, we cannot supervise them when they are not at school or attending activities. However, like all of our other students, we provide them with a 24-hour emergency contact phone number.

Excursions

Staff to student ratios are strictly enforced and students are double checked on and off buses. During excursions, free time is often given for the students to explore a designated area, e.g. a shopping area. Students can do this in small groups unsupervised but they are told the time and place to meet and also where staff will be during their free time.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Laundry

Paid laundry facilities are available at The Villas. Bed linen and towels are changed once a week, but no other laundry is included in the course fees. Homestay families typically provide laundry facilities to their guests.

Emergencies

A 24-hour emergency telephone number will be given in writing to students. All students will be issued with an identity card, which explains what action is to be followed in the event of an emergency or other difficulties. 

All students must provide an emergency contact number to the staff on their first day. This should normally be the number of a parent/ guardian.
